Born in France to a French father and a Portuguese mother from the Minho region, Aurora grew up between two cultures. She trained in culinary arts in France, where she worked with renowned chefs such as Alain Ducasse and Guy Savoy, before joining the team at José Avillez’s Belcanto in Lisbon. In 2018, she decided to open her own restaurant, Apego, in Porto. The name “Apego” reflects Aurora’s personal connection to her family, memories, and the Portuguese landscape. The restaurant seeks to create an environment that unites people, where good food, conversation, and a relaxed atmosphere mirror the gatherings that marked her childhood. The open kitchen allows Aurora and her team to prepare each dish in full view of the guests, providing a welcoming and personal experience. The menu is seasonal and constantly evolving, using local ingredients from small producers. Although it highlights Portuguese flavors, Aurora’s French training is evident in the refined techniques she uses to elevate each dish, from delicate sauces to meticulous presentation. For a complete experience of Aurora’s culinary approach, the five-course tasting menu, “Menu Desapego,” offers a journey through her favorite ingredients and techniques. Each dish invites guests to create new memories while connecting with Portugal’s culinary heritage. Chef Aurora Goy rediscovered Portugal in her own way through her cuisine, and you too can discover the country through its edible stories.
